The One Million Tests Campaign, organized by AIDS Healthcare Foundation in coalition with 1000+ global partners, has successfully mobilized non-governmental organizations (NGOs), local and national governments, international relief agencies, faith-based organizations, civil society and industry to conduct 1,603,272 Free HIV Tests. Together, we have inspired each other and the world! A new worldwide testing coalition united to mobilize record attendance at testing marches in Africa, festivals in Asia, hospital waiting rooms throughout Russia, Ukraine and Hungry, university campuses in Mexico, innovative testing events in the Caribbean, Latin and South America, Europe, Australia, Canada and the United States. In small villages to large cities from every corner of the globe, an unprecedented number of people queued in line at testing sites to shatter the stigma of HIV and find out their status. We applaud their determination & courage. The campaign leveraged innovative testing strategies for streamlined and large scale testing – embracing a variety of rapid testing modalities, group pre-test counseling models and easy anti-retroviral treatment (ART) referrals whenever possible to save the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS and prevent further transmission – as well as internet technology for accurate data reporting, the opportunity to share success stories and lessons learned. This, combined with resolve of the human spirit, not only made 1,603,272 tests possible, but is a call to arms going forward. Are you ready for TEN MILLION Tests in 2009? It is clear that people want to be tested – they want access to treatment so they can provide for themselves, their families and their future …and together we can and will test TEN MILLION in 2009!
